My Crafton Story

I like to joke that I’m a relative newcomer to Crafton — I’ve only been here 31 years! I wasn’t born here, and neither were my parents or grandparents, but Crafton has become home for me and my family.

In 1994, I left Michigan to take a chance on a guy from Coraopolis and on a new life in Pennsylvania. Not long after, we stumbled on a charming old fixer-upper on Baldwick — the one with the huge rhododendrons that bloom in spring. Something about it pulled us in, and before we knew it, we were the proud owners of the home we have affectionately dubbed Foolhearty Manor.

Crafton became more than just our home — it became a magnet for my family. My mother, Terez, soon moved here. Many of you will remember her tireless spirit, always rolling up her sleeves to volunteer along with me. She was particularly fond of helping with the Crafton Library bake sales when I was on the board as well as the Historical Society galas and house tours. A couple years later my sister Mary K, a Navy veteran, brought her two children to live in Crafton. My nephew went to high school at Carlynton and played football. Over time, all three of them found spouses while living here. My nephew and his wife have now found their home in Crafton and are raising their indefatigable daughter who loves to come visit our fish and play my piano.

In just a few decades, four generations of my family have put down roots here.

This is why I’ve devoted myself to giving back to this wonderful community through my years of volunteering, serving on council, and as your mayor.

With your vote I will continue working with our police department and chief to continue to build stronger community-based policing and pursue state accreditation. I’ll also keep a careful eye on our budget to make sure Crafton stays on solid financial footing now and into the future.

Thank you for your trust and support.

Coletta Perry brings a clear vision, a steady hand, and a proven record of making responsible choices that safeguard the future of Crafton Borough. Her leadership is rooted in safety, stability, and accountability — ensuring decisions are made with the community’s best interests at heart.

Every day, Coletta works to keep Crafton strong, stable, and a place residents are proud to call home.

Strong on Safety, Smart on Spending

Visionary Police Stewardship

Coletta led the successful search for Chief Rick Ford, managed the smooth transition to our new leadership; and is guiding the department toward a stronger future — improved facilities, upgraded equipment, and smarter policing for our community.

Public Safety

  • Supported traffic signal upgrades via grant funding

  • New stop signs installed: Bradford, Coulter, Highland, and Stotz

  • Increased traffic speed monitoring

  • Expanded traffic enforcement

Police department Oversight

  • Led Police Chief search and managed smooth transition.

  • Approved firearms and taser upgrades.

  • Supported new relaxed dress code policies.

  • Securing upgrades and expansion to the department.

  • Backing Chief Ford’s new department initiatives.

  • Working towards departmental state accreditation.

Proven Leadership, Lasting Impact

Transparency, Access, & Outreach

  • Orchestrated a successful community engagement meeting to hear residents’ opinions on the Steuben Street GetGo proposal — effectively halting the plan when many thought it was unstoppable. (Council President 2019)

  • Led live streaming and online community commenting efforts.

  • Volunteer editor of borough newsletter — provided expanded borough news, project updates, and community event notices to every Crafton resident (2021–24).

Fiscal Responsibility

As finance chair, Coletta has helped deliver balanced budgets every year — with zero local tax increases for the last five years. She provided visibility and accountability for the bond fund by creating the tracking process — proving that smart, responsible leadership works.

Proven Entrepreneur. Proven Leader.

I’ve spent my career turning big ideas into real businesses. First it was digital typography, then it was Desktop Publishing.

Twenty years ago, I took another leap forward and founded Avatar Digital Publishing Solutions (Avatar DPS). As CEO, I lead a team that brings data and design together to make large document automation faster and more powerful.

Entrepreneurship isn’t just about business—it’s about vision, innovation, and building something that lasts. That’s what drives me every day — in business and in my service to our community.
